I Can't Wait to Vote

In an unprecedented break from my non-political tradition, I'm going to say something, and it's not going to be popular: I can't WAIT to vote. I am truly excited to vote for my candidate--whose name I shall not divulge because I don't enjoy hateful comments, which would be thrown at me no matter whose name I give. I'm not saying my candidate is perfect, but I like him. And I hope he wins, and I have a positive outlook for the future if he DOES win. Ha! There. I said the unthinkable thing. Call me naive, but I prefer to think of myself as. . . childlike.

Honestly, though, I'm tired of all the cynicism over politics. In my opinion, cynicism is often just an excuse to avoid thinking about things--I know, cause I've made the excuse so many times in my life. And enough with the media-blaming, already! We GET it! The media is biased. So what? The world is going to hell in a hand-basket, and there are no good candidates for president. I hear it every time we have an election. For once I would like to hear someone say something like, "I am so full of hope over this election that I just can't WAIT to vote!" But people would rather say "I don't know what I'm going to do because there are no good candidates and the whole thing is just such a mess that all I want to do is curl up on the couch and drink hot chocolate." Suck it up, dudes. Democracy ain't perfect, but it's the best thing we've got. We might as well try to drum up some enthusiasm for the process, especially since our country is currently trying to establish a democracy in other parts of the world.

Carly, I was so excited to vote today. It was strangely an emotional moment for me. I don't think the world is going to end next week, no matter who wins, so no curling up on the couch for me. Huzzah!

I am excited too. I feel hopeful this election. I, personally, am voting for Obama and cant' wait. I hope people feel as awesome if they vote for McCain. We actually have two good candidates this year. It's exciting.

I can't BELIEVE you're voting for that guy!!! How can you be LDS and vote for HIM?

I thought I specified no hateful comments????? Who are you to call into question someone's faith simply because they have chosen a certain candidate? Kacy is voting according to her conscience, and you have no right to imply that she is not a faithful and good member of the church because of her choice. How do you even know what led her to her choice? It sickens me that people take the liberty to judge each other so harshly--to the point of calling religious beliefs into question--because they are excited to vote for someone. Sorry to rant and rave, but that comment was the straw that broke this camel's back.

Oops, that comment was NOT directed at Kacy! Sorry!!!!!! It was meant as a joke directed at you since you didn't specify who you were voting for. Heck, my whole family is voting for Obama except for me, and I'm not questioning their faith. Dang blogs, it's so easy to mislead. No hard feelings?

Oh man. I'm sorry. I have just seen my sister get skewered over at Every Day I Write the Book and Light Refreshments Served because she is saying she likes Obama. I guess I should have asked before I flew off the handle. Heh. Woopsie daisies.

I am joining you in your optimism. I too feel that one of these guys is really going to do some good things. I had a moment during the convention were I felt patriotic for the first time in my life. I have been so excited to vote, I was going to vote early and actual cried a little when I realized the early polling station didn't open until 3:00 and I couldn't go then.
