Some Truths I'm Trying to Come to Grips With

1. Some people are just mean. They don't care if it's wrong to be mean. They don't care if they reduce you to tears in the church parking lot. They don't care if they look like a demon when they squint their eyes and shake their heads at you.

2. Apparently my beloved home town of Provo is now a fantasy land full of felt flowers, freebies, and frosted cupcakes. This Provo doesn't extend farther west than BYU, and is being taken over by a small group of people who paint a picture of life that suggests everyone has their own personal professional photographer/filmmaker. Sigh. I know this is a controversial thing to say, but I don't know what's happened to the old sleepy town I grew up in. Where are my humble orchards and peculiar, salt-of-the-earth people? Where is my auto shop/Mormon art store, not to mention Norton's, D&B Woods, GRANDVIEW ELEMENTARY, and all that they embody? I know everyone means well, but what has happened to normal Provo? I guess elite Provo is replacing it.

3. Kids make horrifying messes and break things, no matter what you do, or how hard you try to prevent/avoid it.

4. Whatever happens, there will be urine to clean up.

5. I can't dance.

6. I am going to have to toughen up and crack down on people that I hate, including some children and some of the elderly.

It's been a rough couple of weeks.

  1. Sorry it's been a rough couple of weeks! And of course, to be totally honest I am dying to know more details, but I'll let you leave it a mystery!

  3. 3 and 4 are big realities in my life right now. BIG realities.

I miss the old feel of Provo too. I'm so happy you mentioned Norton's. I think I could draw a very good map of the inside of Norton's. And I think it closed when I was six.

Lastly, "Give me a great, groovy, grand grizzly growl to show spirit for our Grandview school. Proudly we'll wear our orange and brown..." Such a great song and such awesome colors! Ha. I miss it.

Sorry it's been a rough time.

  4. Robyn,
The Grandview song brought a little tear to my eye. How I miss it! Also, remember how Nortons had red cream soda? And remember old DI?

  5. I'm excited to hear about the crack down.

I kinda don't like people in general. It has taken a lot of years to find the ones that are worth liking.

  6. People suck. Nortons rules. I'm trying to remain old school, but I feel myself wanting to throw a party with Chinese lanterns and catered food.

  10. Aw, I miss the Grandview song too!

I was talking to someone recently who was born in Provo a long time ago (I think he was in his 80's) and actually remembered when there was an ice skating rink where D.I. is now.

Sorry things have been rough for you. Good luck!

  11. One of my husband's favorite lines is "Mean people suck." It's true. And there seem to be a lot of them. Why do they think it's OK? Every once in a while I want to lash back at one of them, but I stop myself because I don't want to be a mean person, too.

Also, do real people really hire photographers to take pictures of their dinner parties? I've asked myself this more than once. I'm baffled. I guess my dinners aren't photo worthy.

Hope you're doing well. PS - Hazel sure is a beauty. Boy, she's sure grown up fast!

  12. I echo your Provo thoughts, I get sad when I visit my parents and have to drive by the houses they built in the orchard. Nortons was the best. I have two bricks on my bookcase that my sister took from Grandview, they make me a little sad too.
My dad did some remodeling and they used one of the Grandview bricks on the outside of their house, that one makes me happy.
