GULP

It's official: We leave for Taiwan December 28th. The tickets are bought ($4000!!!!!) and now all we have to do is find a place to live, get shots, get visas, obtain some moola, brainwash Holden that it's a good idea to leave Utah, potty train and bed-train Hazel, and convince my momma to come with us. Any suggestions?

  1. Start feeding the gang lots of fried rice NOW. Eat oriental 4 or 5 days a week, cause when you get there, after a week or so you'll be wanting McD's.
My next door neighbor just got back from his mission there. It takes a while to get used to oriental food all the time.

  2. Hi Carly... glad you guys have a date! I know there is a lot to do (since we just went through it all 6 weeks ago!), but it'll get done and you will get through it. Do you need help with anything? I will try and email you...

  3. ahhhh! Craziness! That will be so exciting. I think you for sure have to convince your mom to come, that will make everything work.

  4. Hint: "oriental" is offensive to Asian people when used in ANY context other than in reference to rugs.

I'm really excited for you, but I do not envy the preparation stage. Good luck.

  5. Those are some pretty good suggestions to get used to eating indigenous food. After 16 days in Korea the food was hard to swallow.

    Excellent adventure dude! DMP

  6. Wow. $4000. Having two kids over two must stink! I'm so excited for you guys. And yes, try to get your mom to come.

  7. And I say your mom should come because I would be very happy if she moved out here!

  8. Carly, IIRC you've been to China so my advice is probably worthless, but don't eat Chinese food all the time because you want to eat it while you've got it here. My wife spent a few months in Taiwan though if you want some specific ideas from a non-missionary perspective. McD's is cheap over there though, so it's not a bad meal out. Be prepared to not drive a car everywhere. Find a cheap grocery store, although that might not be hard there like it is in Japan. Have fun!
